Archer – The Worlds Greatest Spy. Obviously

If you haven’t seen this program there’s likely to be an Archer shaped hole in your life. Seriously, this is without doubt one of the funniest shows you have ever had the misfortune not to see.

Set in New York, the show revolves around the various exploits of a spy by the name of Sterling Mallory Archer, his mother and various co-workers that work for an agency named ISIS (no not that one) the “International Secret Intelligence Service.”

There are currently 6 series comprising of 75 episodes, the first aired on January 14th 2010 and with the upcoming 7th series airing on March 31st 2016.

The book How to Archer: The Ultimate Guide to Espionage and Style and Women and Also Cocktails Ever Written was released in January 2012. The publisher summary (it’s “written” by Archer) goes some way to describing his character:

“Lying is like 95% of what I do. But believe me: in this book, I’ll let you know exactly how to become a master spy just like me. Obviously, you won’t be as good at it as I am, but that’s because you’re you, and I’m Sterling Archer. I know, I know, it sucks not being me.”

As animated comedy TV series go this is a corker, think Grand Theft Auto in terms of animation style and a sarcastic, dysfunctional self-centered James Bond in terms of comedy (if you can) and you’re not far off. The shows’ blend of wit, political and general incorrectness, catch phrases and gross stupidity is a winning combo that hasn’t tired through the 6 seasons. Consistently brilliant the show even throws in an off shoot with season 5 under the title “Archer Vice” when the agency gets shut down by The U.S Government and sets about selling a huge haul of cocaine to make ends meet. Funny stuff.

Anyway this series get a huge Man Times recommendation – If you haven’t seen it you can sample the series on YouTube and watch full episodes on Netflix.
