Peyton Manning to Retire

Peyton Manning to Retire

Peyton Manning has given no indication that he wishes to retire; the man is a competitor, a fierce spirit to the point where Brock Osweiler getting a series riled him enough to come back out of the locker room in the game against San Diego but with a Giant back room upheaval now in progress at the Broncos the team has now given the greatest indication that whether he throws for the Broncos in 2015, should he choose too may not be his decision and the Broncos are going to retire him regardless.

It’s difficult one, the Broncos team isn’t old, going into 2014 it was 12th youngest, it just has some old pieces on it and those pieces are pretty expensive. There is younger talent in Denver that needs to be paid this off season and the prospect of learning a new offence and working with a whole new coaching staff the Broncos may have decided that they would rather go through that with a younger Quarterback. There are decent young pieces on this team so the Broncos may elect to let them mature together and build for an assault in 2 or 3 years time.

While serious questions about his ability had begun to arise in the second half of the 2014 season Peyton himself stayed tight-lipped, the question is can the competitor help himself, would he rather go out while he still has it or set himself up for a fall going for glory in 2015. With a new offence to learn, new coaching staff to work with and a necessary pay cut to be taken what realistic chances will he have at glory in 2015. That will depend on what coaching moves the Broncos make but pragmatically his chances are reduced.

The game against Indianapolis that saw him falter on Sunday night was telling from the crowd’s behavior towards him after the game, with people on the side-lines cheering and booing him. He clearly is one of the greatest to play the game ever but where did the Broncos fans get this strange sense of entitlement? That it’s minimum AFC championship game or nothing! Even Broncos corner Chris Harris came out and said the season feels like a waste of time, which is an incredible statement to make! With revolt on the sidelines and in his own roster will Peyton realistically want to subject himself to that?

Peyton is aware of the Legacy he has in football and has almost every significant record in football, the missing one is Farve’s all-time passing yardage record which he currently stands 2147 yards behind. Not even a season’s work, will he risk the legacy he has to go for that record? My guess is he won’t, with skills diminishing and the body giving him more and more problems he has more work in the off-season for certain wherever he ends up, that’s not worth the risk for a couple of thousand yards.

Or he could wind up at the Jets.
